![]() When Mia returns home and calls the police as her husband told her to do, she is attacked by a woman holding the doll and a male accomplice. ![]() At night, Mia hears a murder occurring at their neighbors', the Higgins. Mia loves it and puts it with the rest of her doll collection. John gives her a doll that she has been trying to find. In 1967, John and Mia Form live in Santa Monica and are expecting their first child. In 1970, in which two young women and a young man are telling Ed and Lorraine Warren about their experiences with a doll called Annabelle which, they believe, is haunted. The film starts with the same opening scene from The Conjuring. And yes, The Nun is totally the Thanos of this universe lol. I enjoy the absurdity of that idea and like that they've managed to create an entire shared universe based on demons spooking people. They're sort of Ghostbusters movies but with some edge. The Conjuring Universe is not very good, but personally I find the films really enjoyable. Me thinks that one will be the end, which I don't mind. The Nun II also kind of circled back and set up another Conjuring film. You might have noticed that Conjuring 3 didn't set up anything, unlike The Conjuring (Annabelle) and Conjuring 2 (the Nun, Crooked Man). Now it's only about getting Conjuring sequels (+The Nun II). However, both underperformed significantly (don't think they flopped), which resulted in de-canonising La Llorona and cancelling all other spin-off films, including The Crooked Man which also was planned. 2019 had both La Llorona and Annabelle Comes Home, the latter set up a ton of different spooky demons. I think the idea once for the Conjuring Universe was to double down on the spin offs. You fucking nailed it on the nun progression from the tease to the intro to the full movie. There’s no real danger for really any of the characters.Įither way. These movies are pretty tame and always end with victory for the protagonists. Where the stakes are high and death is on the line and is usually the outcome. I prefer horror that ends in tragedy like blairwitch or the ring. I’m enjoying films that people unanimously hated (like Annabelle). I think the cinematic universe adds a lot to the watching experience. I gotta say in general these films are not good. Same goofy feel-good type of ending that all of the movies have. I know the conjuring creators disowned the film (because it did so poorly) but it’s very clearly a conjuring film. It doesn’t come to streaming until Oct 25th so I’m gonna end up watching that one last □♂️. I’m not counting La Llorona as a Conjuring film.Īwesome about the nun II. Conjuring 4: Last Rites will most likely go last in the future. I can see The Nun 2 placing itself after the first The Nun and those films hopefully becoming a perfect duology like Annabelle and Annabelle Creation. Conjuring 3 The Devil Made Me Do It: wraps up the trilogy and doesn’t set up any future films Annabelle Comes Home (2019): the film is set after Conjuring 1 and sets the stage for Conjuring 3 with different house aesthetics, a more overt fantastical tone and focusing on the Warren’s as seasoned demonologists The Nun (2018): the film starts with the events from Conjuring 2 and introduces itself as “and this is its origin story”, ending is a throwback to Conjuring 1 Conjuring 2 (2016): The Nun is introduced. Annabelle Creation (2017): it fits perfectly with the first Annabelle and improves it. Annabelle (2014): it’s a bad/boring film but watching it right after Conjuring 1 makes it appear scarier and makes you see things which aren’t there It's a win for what it is considering the impossible task the writer and the director had of pleasing all these harsh fans who couldn't even tell you what they liked about the first two conjuring movies other than "it was scary.- The Conjuring (2013): perfect introduction to the universe explaining demons and the stages of possession It is a quality addition to the series with good production value, and much more thoughtfully-written than the spin offs. While remaining faithful to the Conjuring universe, I appreciated that this third movie explored new territory so it wasn't just a repeat. But if that's your thing, you'll probably be just as entertained by a jack in the box. If it was all jump scares and lacking in story (the movie Winchester comes to mind), I guarantee y'all would've been even more disappointed. Everyone who's complaining that they're too much story and not enough scares, are you kidding? Story and character is the reason why we care about the stakes-that's where drama, tension and horror comes from.
